Houston...A No Go!

I guess I had better learn how to keep track of my blog from now on-I was getting carried away and havent had time to update lately. To summarize, I'm wrapping up my clinical rotation at St. Vincent Carmel next week! And then I'll be heading down to St. Francis in Greenwood for 6 weeks to work for the weight loss program-new scenery/different patients. I think I'm ready for a change...or maybe just a pay check. I think the ladder is true! Finishing up in July and off to no where as of now.
Jake had an interview with a Sam's Club manager down near Houston, they offered him the job on Monday evening and told him they needed a response by Wednesday...we then had a hard time deciding on what to do, but ultimately the city we wouldve lived in was smaller than Lafayette (boo!) so it was a No Go! We are both still looking for job opportunities here, there, everywhere to see what fits us now. Our lease is up at the end of July, so we have time to think and plan.
Swine flu, H1N1 or no Swine flu we are leaving for Cancun, Mexico on May 19th! We tried re-booking in another area such as the D.R. (for honeymoon memories), Jamaica, Bahamas, etc, but either the plane or resort price was way more than we paid to go to Mexico. So you want a cheap vacation? Dont expect to avoid things like the Swine Flu or Drug Cartel! Next time we wont be so stingy!
Lots of things happening in April, my birthday-along with several of Jakes family members birthdays. We're excited for Curtis Painter and his opportunity to join the Colts this fall! Our volleyball team officially started consisting of 8 non-volleyball playing "atheletic people" or "not" since we are 1-3 (technically 0-4 bc the team we "beat" had to forfeit). Its a good experience for me because I absolutely hate losing and its making me really work on my patients too. Another happening in April, I signed up to be a BeautiControl Consultant. Sort of on a whim, but I really like the products so I will benefit from the discount if anything else. www.beautipage.com/r_standeford/index.asp for my awesome web page! Our most popular product set is the IFL or instant face lift-everyone needs one of those! If you are interested in hosting a spa-please let me know, I could use the experience.
Upcoming events for us include baby and bridal showers, weddings, graduation parties, etc the usual summer festivities that usually break the bank! Gotta love em :)
Thats about all thats happened since the last post back in March-I'll try to keep this more regular, but it seems in the summer time its harder to do so than in the winter time. Until next time...

Is your bracket busted?

This year I decided to fill out a NCAA tournament bracket without watching a full game all season long. For some reason I thought it would be fun, but I'm finding myself watching Sports Center or the individual games to see whos going to win and which upsets I need to happen for my braket to survive and not get busted! I laugh at myself inside because of the things I do...particularly when I chose Radford over UNC-Come on who knew! I thought the name sounded cool and was looking for an upset. I was over at the Smith's house when it happened and they (the 2 basketball Pros) laughed at me and said "Rox what were you thinking!". They allowed me to make 1 change and that was what I made. So far so good...In my final four I have Purdue (team fav), Oklahoma, Pitt, and MSU. Jake told me I was a little heavy on the Big Ten teams-so what if I have a little bit of biased opinion. Part of my bracket is busted, thanks to these Big Ten teams: OSU, Minnesota, and Illinois. Other teams who through me for a loop were Wake Forest, Cal, UCLA, and Temple. Next year I might research a little more or at least not go wild for lots of upsets! For this year, Its been a good time seeing the ones I do get right!

1st Cookout of the year!

Today we had our first cookout of the year. We headed over to what is "our neighborhood" by association or Saddlebrook for those of you Lafayetteans. We have friends who live over there and all their neighbors or our neighbors I should say, are always outside as long as weather permits. Today was an awesome day to be outside, granted it was only 58 degrees, but with the sunshine it felt like 85-not really but you get what I mean. Grilled hotdogs and hamburgers were on the menu along with other summery foods like strawberries, potato salad, etc you get the point. This Tuesday its supposed to be 68! It should be a nice St. Pattys Day. Jake is looking forward to having an annual green beer although it wont be the same without Jacko and Al this year. Last year we went to Jakes for a while, got T-shirts and hung out like old times. It really kinda stinks getting older, well only the missing your friends part.

Anniversary around the corner!

Our 1 year anniversary is just around the corner-only 3 months away! I had lunch with Jackie today who reminded me of the anniversary tradition. Its where the first year you give your partner something paper, 2nd anniversary something cotton, 3rd something leather and on and on.. So I started thinking about the traditional "paper" gift I want to get for Jake and I'm glad I still have some time because I'm unsure what to get him. Ideas that websites listed were tickets to a concert, sporting event etc.. or a photo album, framed picture, postcard from somewhere meaningful which are all good ideas, I just need time to think about it :) Its crazy that it has already been 9 months!
My next priority on my long list of things to do is job searching. Since I've decided I really like most dietitian positions available, I'm thinking this process will go smoothly. Still stressful and I'm currently working on updating my resume to start sending out to possible positions. Its still kind of early since I wont be able to begin a position until July-but I always like to think ahead.
We are headed to Monrovia tomorrow to visit with Jakes family...yeah for a baby fix! Those of you with nieces, nephews, friends with babies, etc know what I'm talking about ;)
