Nora {6 months}

Our sweet baby girl is growing up so fast-6 months old already! Her 6 month visit is coming up on September 26th where we will know her weight, length & receive a few more shots.  We weighed her on Labor day and she was around 16 pounds.  She has been thinning out-growing longer, but not putting on much weight.  She used to wear at least a size ahead now shes in the 3-6 or 6 month range, not really wearing any 9 month clothes yet.  3 months ago she was already wearing 6 month clothes, however, now we are in the 6-12 month range in a bunch of her clothes so who really knows whats going on, but she seems long & any stranger that asks how old she is is always shocked that she is only 6 months old.

We are getting pictures taken by one of our friend's in October. I'm excited to see how they turn out, but for now Mom's camera shots are all we've got!

Here's a few pictures to share what's happening now:

Makes all kinds of faces now

First try at rice cereal-loves the spoon, attention and different food, but most of it came out instead of going down.  Working on starting vegetables this coming week. We have everything to make our own baby food, but we have some jarred to start off with that was given to us from both grandmas.  P.S. cereal poop smells horrible-I gagged & about had it changing that diaper!

Working on standing on everything, but has mastered the army crawl to reach those out of reach toys, Jersey, or anything else she wants.  She has been getting up on knees & elbows, but hasn't figured out where to go from there.  She's still a bit wobbly when she sits, but is almost sitting up on her own. She sucks on her toes & it grosses me out when random people touch them and then the next thing I know they are in her mouth!

First pony tail for church this morning

Such a big girl!

In this picture she looks a lot like me when I was 5 months old.

First technical vacation to the Wisconsin Dells after a couple night stay with Papaw Stans & Nana Karen

2 Teeth! The first popped up on Labor Day while visiting Ellen, Ryan, & Baby Austin. Needless to say that ride home was less than desirable.  Things are getting better now that they are both through the gums.

Loves her dad.  Casual first word "Da-da". I knew Mama was out of reach so 3 weeks ago I started coaching her on Dada after she had the da, ga, ba sounds all down.  One day she strung da & da together. She doesn't know the meaning yet, but Jake felt pretty special when she said it to him.

Still Mommy's girl & has started reaching for me as I walk by her.

Beach Time

We took a day trip up to the Dunes before heading to Chicago and it was a lot of fun. Nora's first trip to the beach was a success.  I'm so glad it was last weekend and not this weekend because the humidity was really low.  I've never been up to the Indiana Dunes, but for a short 2.5 hours from Indy, all interstate, to go to the beach wasn't bad.  We went to Central Beach in Beverly Shores, highly recommend to anyone planning a trip up there in the future.  It was free and free to park-we packed a cooler and had lunch & snacks for the day.  Outside of the 60 degree water (brr it was cold) and the nuclear plant to the east in the distance you wouldnt know you were in Indiana! Here are some pictures from our day:

Heading Home Today

I'm sitting at breakfast at the B&B I stayed at all week hoping that my flight goes out today. We had more snow here last night-on top of the rest we've had each day/night I've been here! It's absolutely beautiful when it snows here...the scenery makes it that way. I'll post some pictures when I get home.
Yesterday my flight was supposed to be out at 9:50 am Mtn time...After driving all the way to the airport my flight (45 minutes) my flight was delayed and was 'hopefully' going out at 11:30 am. But, the lady informed me that the flight that was headed to Denver and then here was rerouted to Colorado Springs because of fog & that they would have to get the plane to Denver to drop of their passengers then head to Durango. Through my decision making process I decided to just reschedule for this morning. Two reasons why: 1. The flight was 'hopefully' going out at 11:30 in which case I would miss my connecting flight in Denver, but eventually get to Indy around 8 pm. and 2. It was snowing cats and dogs and I knew it wasn't going to stop just by the way it was coming down.
Instead of flying home last night we went skiiing at Pergatory Mountain! It was my first skiiing experience EVER! I was a little nervous and scared and excited at the same time, but we didnt have any gear. We gathered all our suitcases together and mixed and matched layers upon layers to be fit for cold weather for a while. We fell short a pair of gloves, ski goggles, and hats. The people at the front desk of our hotel were kind enough to loan us their gear since they were working! So it all worked out!
Up the mountain we went-arrived around 12 which by then the locals had been skiiing since 9 am. Kari (from Michigan and a ski-goer up there) gave me some pointers then we headed up the lift. This particular lift everyone was telling us was the easy trails happened to go to the top of the mountain!! I was thinking in the back of my head how long it took us to get up there and how long it was going to take us to get back down!! 1 hour and 45 minutes later we reached the bottom of this snow packed mountain. Did I mention lots of steep hills that we had to side step down-Kari had never seen anything like it and later determined that skiiing in MI was a lot easier than in CO. The part that was more difficult was the 'powder' everyone talked about or loose snow! It was supposed to be so cool, but to a first-timer it was evil! We would fall in the powder waist deep and have to dig our skis and ourselves out of the mess!
She said I was a natural and that I caught on pretty quick (dont know if she was stroking my ego or not!?). But I only fell maybe 7 times the whole way down and some were because I wanted to steer away from other beginners who were having the same troubles! We ate lunch and went back out where we actually found the 'bunny hills'!! After several runs down them I decided I was a pro at the bunny hill based on my experience at the huge mtn.
As I sit here at breakfast I was talking to two of the girls who work here (who went out skiing yesterday) and they couldnt believe I was out on the big mtn with all the powder-they said that it was a 'difficult' day for them too! I feel proud like I accomplished something, even though at times I felt like a morbidly obese person trapped in the snow who couldnt get up to save their life! Its challenging to get up once you fall, but luckily that didnt happen to much!
Its a great place to ski if you're looking for an adventure and only cost me $59 for the day for rentals and lift tickets! Pergatory Mountain or Durango Mountain Resort is what its called. After all that I think Jake wants to take a chance on the mountain too! Maybe our next vacation spot? Who knows!

Leland House, Durango, CO

The Rochester Hotel-across the street from the Leland House (where I'm staying)

The bikes that are available to ride...too bad theres a ton of snow on the ground! They even have a basket!

The 'what I call mountains' next to the hotel...but I was informed by my driver last night that they are just hills, and that I havent seen mountains yet! From a Hoosier...those are mountains!

Another view of the mountains...the entrance to the Leland House was just cut off here on the right where the tree is cut off.

The Leland House

Living area

Awesome shampoo/conditioner/bath wash in shower!

My nice comfy bed

Another view of the living room, awesome gas fireplace that I have cranked up since its 'free' and since Jake isnt here telling me hes sweating!

Durango...here I come!

I'm sitting in the airport waiting on my departing flight to Durango, CO! I'll be training out there on Wednesday and Thursday for work which means all expenses paid. I'm excited to check out Colorado for a few days. Its snowing and should be snowing the whole trip with temps in the 30's-not far from temps here in Indy. I'll be staying at a Bed and Breakfast-one that our company frequents on trips out west. I guess there are good things when you have a boss who likes nice/different experiences! Our view is of the mountains I'm told, but in a day or two I'll post pictures of how things went.

I am a bit nervous to be flying by myself as it's the first time I've ever flown by myself before. If Jake wrote on here he would be laughing hard at that (in a good way) because he knows how I am when we hit a little turbulance! Did I mention we are flying into Denver for my connecting flight...last time we flew in there I almost had a heart attack! And, one of my patients said to me last night, "Oh yeah dont read (something that tells about birds and flying) today because this time of the year there have/are alot more bird strikings happneing!!! Yikes! She didnt have to tell me that.
Oh well, I feel very well taken care of in His hands...you should be excited for pictures to come! & if you get bored-call Jake he'll be lonely with out me, but he sleeps from 8am to 5-6 pm usually-so dont interupt that!

Austin, TX also known as ATX

Last Wednesday we left to spend the rest of the week with Rach & Brad down in Austin! We absolutely loved it...the only problem is there aren't any jobs in that area in the fields that Jake and I are specialized in and that is huge. Despite 100 degree temperatures throughout our vacation, we found tons of other things we really enjoyed. Including, duh, the warm weather all year round, IKEA & the outlet mall right down the street, the fly-overs, bar-b-q pork ribs, awesome views from hill country, the freezing cold natural spring pool, trailer park eatery, Peter Pan putt putt, H-E-B or pronounced "Heeb", 6th street, bat bridges, the lakes, the everythings bigger in Texas mentality including water glasses at restaurants, cowboy hats & rodeos, etc. Here are a few pictures from our trip!
The guys after dinner...Aaron, Jake & Brad.
Me, Rach, & Shauna
The gigantic water glass....tried to give a size scale with the shaker, but it really didnt do it! But, the glass holds like 36-48 oz. I just thought it was at the first restaurant we went to, but it happened to be the same way at the other ones too.
Jake and I with the nice sunset.
One of the lakes
Over looking downtown in the very far distant.
At Pure...a bar on 6th street...we really liked the way it looked and seemed to blow the most cold air as we walked down the street. It gave us time to cool off a bit before heading to the next stop.
The well fed pool that was 68 degrees! But it felt awesome since it was 104 that day.
One of the Trailers at the Trailer Park Eatery...This one had gourmet smores with different flavored marshmallows, but we didnt try any of them.
The taco trailer we ate at for lunch one day! Interesting business plan I must say! We hope to someday re-visit, move to, or vacation in Austin again. We had an awesome time- thanks to our great friends Brad and Rachael for letting us stay in their awesome house :)

I think we might have hustled them

Last night we had our first volleyball game of the tournament at Faith Baptist. Just to review, we didnt win a game until last week (the last game of the regular season), actually we did win one but only because the other team forfeited! Anyway, the team we played last night beat us a few weeks ago-really bad, but we ended up beating them this time by at least 7-10 points each game (we play 3). I sort of feel like we hustled them, but really we just had a large learning curve!

I wanted to post some pictures of whats been going on lately even thought they have nothing to do with the post!Isabella being so good at graduation!
Jake & John manning the grill for a cookout after the graduation partyIsabella, Ann, and Nellie playing outside in their gated pin on the grass. We were out to eat for my birthday since it happened to fall one of the nights of the conference. Cancun beachThe brown elephant...like goodwill only better up in chicago! This was back in April when we took a trip there with Alex and he found his long lost 70's bowling ball, bag, and shoes all for a whopping $6!! Best buy ever...and its a cool vintage bag!

That wraps up the past few months in rewind! Outside of our anniversary where we spent our time relaxing at home after a few weeks of hectic chaos. For dinner we made pancakes and eggs! How romantic :)
